I don’t, and never will, label myself as an artist. I hate art, I hate artists and I hate art culture. I hate modern art. I hate photography as art.
A few years ago a photographer friend of mine turned me on to the photo app Snapseed and after using it for a while I started to notice people posting pictures that were edited using this app on Instagram. So curious I decided to have a look through the #snapseed images and to my amazement I came across someone who I followed and respected posting images that were heavily edited using this app. And stunning me further I noticed that he had released a book of these images and apparently had sold them by the boat load.
Intrigued by this and combined with my cynical view of the art world outlined in the first paragraph I decided to emulate his style just to see how simple it would be. If he was milking this cash cow then I wanted to hold my cupped hands under his bucket in the hope of catching the drips as he changed teat.
In true ME style I never did anything about it other that run a bunch of photos through the presets I created. At the time I didn’t like the photos enough to post them but looking back now I can see that the photos I made don’t look a million miles from what he was pumping out.
So just to be clear, I think his photos were pish and I think mine looked similar. To this day I am still stunned that he was selling this book. And as I’m typing this I’ve just remembered that he was also selling prints of his images for hundreds of British Pounds. For 12×8 prints made on an iPhone.
Anyway. Enjoy my art. And just for fun I’ve dribbled a few of his photos in this gallery just to show you how closely I emulated his style. See if you can spot them…
