Ibrahim Dikko (ID)

I met Ibrahim a while ago at the LEGS! Next Step Event (a showcase for Scottish Hip-Hop). Well actually I met the artist ID. More recently I met up with the man behind the artist – Ibrahim.

A good few weeks after our first meeting I send him the photographs of him that I had taken on that night. I always give the promoter some exclusive time to work with the photos before sending them on to the artists hence the delay. The next day I woke up to a message from ID telling me he loved the photos and he was interested in doing a photoshoot if I had free time. I said that I would love to do a photoshoot and we began to throw some dates at each other. We found an opening in our diaries and the date was set.

Since this was out first ‘official’ photoshoot together I decided to go to my old faithful location. A spot where I could guarantee that no one would be there and the light would be perfect. And also a location that I will keep to myself. It’s a hidden gem in the city. Perfect for an afternoon of photos. If you know where it is then never, ever, tell anyone. I don’t want it ruined…It’s Mitchell Street Multi-storey Car Park.

Here is what I’ve previously said about him:

“ID (Ibrahim Dikko) was next to take the stage. Slow well produced beats and a fast, bouncing, vocal topped off with a stage presence that makes you pay attention. I must have listened to him on Spotify for about two weeks straight after watching him perform. I was lucky enough to get him to come out side with me for some photographs. He was a good laugh to photograph and had some great stories to tell whilst he was patiently waiting for me to stop taking photos.” – You can read the full post here with my reviews and photographs from the same evening.

And this is what I’ll say now. He is a funny man with a laugh that will make you laugh.

He talks passionately about his music and his art without being egotistic. In fact he was more interested in tell me about his work that he does off stage. Carpentry. He discussed his love of using his hands to create things. We also talked about his love of architecture and comparing Glasgow not only to other cities but also talking about how different each building in Glasgow is to every other building in Glasgow.

It was a genuine pleasure to photograph him and I hope to do so again in the future. On or off the stage.

All photos taken on Leica Q and Leica SL2-S with a Jupiter-8 50mm Lens.
